The British Plastics Federation (BPF) has welcomed the opening of the Eco Plastics recycling plant at Hemswell, Lincolnshire, and the Thames riverside energy from waste plant at Belvedere, Kent.
Peter Davis, director-general of the BPF, said: “These new advanced recovery facilities take us a step closer to achieving our Plastics 2020 Challenge objective of preventing used plastics being dumped in landfill by 2020.

“The Hemswell recycling plant will be able to process 150,000 tonnes of mixed plastics a year to create new products and prevent more used plastics being exported,” he explained.
“The Belvedere plant took an astonishing 15 years to get planning permission but will provide power for 100,000 homes and will process 585,000 tonnes of Londoners’ waste each year, saving fossil fuels.”
