Green Carpet Of 140,000 Recycled PET Bottles To Roll Out At Tokyo International Film Festival

Teijin Limited, for the fifth consecutive year, has produced an eco-friendly Green Carpet made of PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles for the ecologically minded Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF), which will be held from October 20 to 28. The Green Carpet is made of Teijin Fibers’ ECOPET recycled polyester fiber, which was produced from used PET bottles. Carpeting with a total area of 1,800m x 90cm, equivalent to about 51,000 recycled half-liter PET bottles, will be used, including a green carpet that will replace the conventional red carpet for the opening ceremony at the Roppongi Hills complex in central Tokyo.

Over the past five years, Teijin has produced 8,200m of carpet with ECOPET, equivalent to some 143,000 recycled half-liter PET bottles. The material will also be used for Green Coasters, which will be given away to customers of the Toei Subway in a TIFF promotional campaign. The company will also provide the festival with a number of other green items, including Green Ties,“Greenchief” handkerchiefs and Green Ribbons for guests, jackets for festival staffers and reusable eco-bags for guests at the Green Tie banquet.
The items have been produced with eco-friendly ECO CIRCLE FIBERS, which are chemically recycled fibers produced from used polyester products. The company adds, made with its proprietary ECO Circle closed-loop recycling system, the fibers offer the same high quality as fibers made directly from petroleum.
